Abstracts: The crude methanol extract of the bark of C. cainito was partitioned using solvents of increasing polarities, namely hexane, dichloromethane, butanol and water. Isolated thoracic aortic rings with intact endothelium from male Sprague-Dawley rats were used to screen the vasorelaxant activity of the crude extract and its fractions. Results showed that the methanol extract and its fractions caused concentration-dependent relaxation of the vascular smooth muscle. Methanol extract and water fraction exhibited the most profound effects.
